Why Aloe Vera?

Of course, we invested much time making our selection of oils but that was only half of the story as without the perfect medium with which to blend them we would not be able to produce the finest gels. Fortunately the choice of base gel was not difficult, there really was one only one which stood head and shoulders above the rest – Aloe Vera. These are just a few of the many benefits which make Aloe Vera so ideal for our purposes.
Easily absorbed through the pores of the skin Thin, so that a very small amount spreads over a large area
Non-greasy so it cannot stain clothing
Non-perfumed
Comfortable, does not sting
Cooling
Blends with oils beautifully
Not know to cause allergy problems

All very important factors but to those you can add
The finest natural skin conditioner
Natural treatment for burns, stings, wounds and scarring
To give you some background please read our brief article showing some of the history and benefits associated of this remarkable plant.

The Magic of Aloe Vera.
History. Records have existed for more than 5000 years that praise the therapeutic advantages and healing properties of Aloe Vera. Grown originally in Africa, it is known variously as the "plant of immortality", "lily of the desert", "medicine plant" “the burn plant”. The name ‘Aloe’ originates from the Arabic ‘alloeh’ meaning "bitter" because of the taste of the leaves. Since the 1930's extensive research has shown that the clear Aloe Vera gel has a dramatic ability to heal wounds, ulcers and burns by forming a protective coating on the affected areas and accelerating the healing. The gel’s natural anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial action constituents promote cell growth and therefore healing.
Today many people the world over keep this plant to hand, perhaps in the kitchen, it is easy to grow and remarkably useful. For example, in the case of a burn just snap a small piece of the leaf, squeeze and spread the ‘juice’ to instantly relieve the pain and prevent blisters and scarring. Aloe is also used to reduce inflammation, decrease swelling and redness, and accelerate wound healing. Many hospitals use Aloe Vera cream to treat burns. If you keep a first aid kit it would be a good idea to add an Aloe Vera gel.
Aloe is now internationally acknowledged as an aid in keeping the skin supple, and has been used in the control of acne, psoriasis, eczema and ulcers. It can also relieve itching due to insect bites and allergies.
The gel found in the centre of the leaves is the most important part of an Aloe Vera plant for medicinal purposes as it is here that all the goodness is found. Study this list and you will readily understand why this plant is held in such esteem and why, as wanted the very best ingredients, we felt we had no alternative but to choose it.
Why is Aloe Vera considered to be so superior?
It contains over 75 different nutrients including Anthraquinones Enzymes

Hormones

Lignin

Salicylic Acid

Saponins

Sterols

Vitamins

Minerals

Sugars

19 of the 20 amino acids required by the human body

7 of the 8 essential amino acids (those that the body cannot make).

Lupeol also possesses antiseptic and analgesic (pain killing) properties

It really is worth reading that list again, it is easy to miss just how important those few words really are. This impressive list shows why Aloe Vera is so superior - No other natural product contains so many beneficial elements.
Although those facts particularly apply to the taking of Aloe Vera as a drink they also explain why man made gels cannot compete when being applied to burns, open wounds, scarring etc. So when planning our range it was evident that we could do no better than build upon the benefits of Aloe Vera.
Aloe Vera also contains 2 hormones: Auxins Gibberellins These hormones provide wound healing & anti-inflammatory activity which makes it the perfect base for our products. In addition to all of this information, there is the personal preference, Aloe Vera just feels so comforting when being applied, it is a thin, smooth gel which cools the skin, it has no significant odour and a tiny amount spreads over a large area and is absorbed into the skin rapidly, leaving no greasy or sticky residue – it is perfect.
Aloe Vera gel combines very well with other ingredients (in our case the selected oils) to produce specific topical gels which nourish and improve the quality of skin and at the same time to soothe many conditions.
Over the centuries people have reported benefits derived in treating various skin complaints such as eczema, psoriasis, ulcers, burns, acne, stings and bites. Healing wounds preventing scarring
The benefits to the skin are well known and here is famous tale to illustrate this.
A famous account is from Oxford University where a British doctor studying Aloe Vera tells of a conversation he had with an American physician who had worked in the cosmetics industry for thirty years. The American had also been testing aloe products and as he was right-handed, when testing new creams and lotions, he naturally applied each product with the finger tips of his right hand onto the back of his left hand. After years of doing so he said that he clearly had one ‘old’ hand he considered typical of a seventy year old man and one ‘young’ hand which appears to be thirty years younger!
